I witnessed an Osprey, native to this area of northwest Florida, struggling for 7 hours to free herself from the rigging on this sailboat mast. Many of us called Florida Fish and Wildlife. I myself called multiple times because I watched from my office for much of the day in sympathy for this bird. Toward the end of the day, her frantic struggles ceased and we thought the worst. However, the officers arrived and heroically rescued the bird. She had a fishing hook lodged in her back which caused her to get tangled precariously on a wire. I spoke with the officers who transported her to Sandspur Wildlife Sanctuary. All of us who witnessed this incident are determined to help with the rehabilitation of this beautiful animal.
