My name is Damien and the best I can say for myself up to this point is that I've survived.
Roughly five years ago, I attempted suicide for what I thought would be the final time. Friends thankfully intervened and it was determined by, well, everyone, that I needed to make some major changes in my life. The problem was that all of my friends - the people that actually cared about me, existed online, in different states; often even in different countries.
So I took the biggest risk of my life and put everything I owned into my car, driving from Baltimore to Atlanta to live with people that I'd never met in person before.
Within a week, I would no longer have the job I was promised. Within a year, I'd lose my car. Nothing I'd accomplished mattered anymore. Suddenly, at age 30, I had to start all over again. I took this opportunity to finally buckle down and try to get my freelance writing career off of the ground, working entry-level retail jobs I was overqualified for to feed myself in the meantime. Needless to say, my big risk didn't quite pay off.
I'm now 33, and while I'll forever be grateful to my friends for what they did, circumstances outside of our control have created a situation where we all have to go our separate ways. In short - very soon, I won't have a place to live anymore.
My only option, as much as I don't want to do so, is to go back to Maryland. I don't know what will be there for me when I get there. I know I'll be miserable. I know my silly internet writing career is probably done for. I know I'll be starting over once again. I don't have a choice. The best I can do is learn from my past mistakes and make sure I have some of my bases covered this time around.
Money will go directly to moving expenses, food, and any other emergency surprises that come up once I've settled.
I don't know if what I'm asking for will be enough but I really have no idea how this will even go. I'm embarrassed and ashamed that it's even come to this. Anything than you can do to help, just know that I'll always appreciate it.
