Jade is my 36 year old niece and is intellectually disabled. A short time ago, her mom passed away suddenly, leaving her in the care of her younger siblings. We have worked hard this past year and a half to help get Jade independent. She has made amazing progress. As you may recall we had a previous gofundme for Jade to help raise money for a home we purchased for her to live in. Jade is now working and making her own money and living on her own. We are all so very proud of her. Now that we have her moved into her own home, we wanted to start taking care of doctor visits, eye exams, dental visits, etc. that Jade hasn't had done in many, many, many years. Our visit to the dentist last week was a huge eye opener for us. We had no idea Jade's teeth were in such bad shape. She has over 18 infections and barely any upper teeth left. Her lower teeth are in a little better shape. She had two very infected molars removed yesterday. Unfortunately she will need to have all her upper teeth removed. Based on Jade's mental capacity, we know that a "denture" is not an option for her, nor is a removable style more permanent style as she would have trouble cleaning and removing them regularly. The only option for her will be nonremoval teeth for her. While she has medicare, they will only pay $11,000 out of the $30,000 cost for this, leaving Jade with a bill of $19,000.
