Funds for Sabari Kar Gupta's Medical Expenses
My aunt Sabari Kar Gupta was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and needs an immediate kidney transplant. She is currently undergoing dialysis twice a week.
Sabari has been working with International Development agencies for the past 20 years in India, and is one of the most committed social workers in her field. Her passion for changing the world–especially the world of women and children’s health–is remarkable. Even when she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease stage four, she continued to work in remote villages in Orissa, India. Besides her own work, she also took up additional work on organizing women’s self help groups in taking charge of sanitation projects in rural Orissa.
Since 2015 she has been helping her sister and her children who were in despair. She took over custody of her two nieces, abandoned by their parents, even though her health has been failing. She has worked for CARE International and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) In late 2018 she had to quit her job with the UNICEF due to her health and come back home. Since then, she has decided to work on adolescent women’s menstrual health and sanitation. She has also been organizing and educating community health workers in the local municipality and in her hometown.
Currently, she is undergoing dialysis two times a week and waiting for a kidney transplant. Since she quit her job, she does not have any health insurance. The cost of her treatment will be approximately USD $20,000 which includes her dialysis and kidney transplant. She will require a substantial amount of time to recover from the transplant in the coming year. But without any funding, it will be difficult for her to manage her health. In order to help her out from here, we have decided to raise funds through Gofundme to help pay for her treatments. We’ll be thankful to you for any support you can do to help her.
