Hi, my name is Lu, and I’ve finally decided to leave my office job behind and chase my dream of becoming an actress. This year, I got accepted into acting school, and I can’t even describe how excited I am to finally start doing what I love in a city I’ve always dreamed of living in.

But of course, nothing comes without its challenges. Since the acting school is in London and I’m from Germany, I have to pay double the course fees compared to my fellow students - that’s £40,000 (around 46,000€), not including living expenses. I’ve saved enough to support myself through the first year if I manage to find a job in the UK, but the following two years are still completely uncertain. I can’t apply for Auslandsbafög, and it’s unclear whether I’ll even qualify for a loan and even if I do, it still wouldn’t be enough to cover everything.

So now, I’m in a situation where I have no other option but to rely on the kindness of others, whether that’s through donations or simply resharing my GoFundMe.

It would honestly break my heart to have to give up on this dream I’ve had since I was a kid.
