Austin Clayton, a vibrant and active teenager, was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (Type 2D) at the age of 10. Active in sports and with goals of one day becoming a Marine like his dad, Austin started having frequent falls and trouble with stairs. His diagnosis was an answer to many questions, but just the beginning of his journey. Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy attacks the muscles, causing weakness and muscle wasting. It makes things like standing, walking, and climbing stairs difficult. The disease has no cure and symptoms worsen over time. Over the last three years of living with this disease, Austin has proved just how remarkable he is every step of the way. He has a brilliant mathematical mind and participates in several extracurricular activities. He has even gone to Washington DC to lobby for additional research in pediatric healthcare - he is a force to be reckoned with.
Austin has recently been given the opportunity for an answered prayer - he has been approved for a 2 week camp that will teach him to be the proud owner of a service dog! A service dog will make an incredible impact in Austin's day to day life, assisting him with navigating his wheelchair at school, retrieving fallen items on the floor, even helping him remove his shoes! A service dog can help support him when walking short distances, push elevator and handicap buttons, and provide vital emotional support.
The two week camp costs $2,300, and this amount covers hotel, meals, the dog starter kit. The money is due by May 1st.
Help us make an incredible impact in Austin's life, the way he has made such an impact in ours, and donate to this incredibly worthy cause.
Any funds raised over the goal for camp will go directly to Austin's continued medical care. Thank you!
