Makena's Journey

Makena's Journey... This precious gift is my grand daughter Makena who is now 18 months old, She entered the world 5 weeks premature and was born with a cleft palate, recessed chin and rotated ears. Makena also has a hypothyroidism and will be on medication the rest of her life, She didn't get to go home until she was 2 months old. She has had one medical diagnosis after the other, she is strong and a fighter. Makena was on oxygen for months due to obstruction sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. Then was in a helmet for months for her torticollis and plagiocephaly. She has had a feeding tube since she was about 7 weeks old. Although Makena is now 18 months old, she can't walk, talk or eat yet but  since her cleft palate repair and tubes in her ears, she can now sit up on her own and play with a few toys. We are so blessed for how strong she is. Just as we see progress my daughter is set up with another set back. We just found out that  Makena is hearing impaired and will need hearing aids and additonal therapy. This is very costly and as you can imagine the medical bills are crazy.
My daughter, Cassie is a wonderful mother and does everything in her power to make sure that Makena gets all the help she needs, An average week consist of a few doctors appointments; a trip to Childrens Hospital and several therapy sessions . Makena's Journey has been a long one and it would take pages to list all her medical challenges she has been through. As my daughter put on her helment, Makena was given this life to live it. She is the joy of our lives and we want the best for her. I would like to raise enough money to pay for her hearing aids and therapy. Makena is so very blessed and the love surrounding this child is priceless. I am so proud of the mother that my daughter is and Makena is getting stronger becasue of her.
