My name is Ashley. I run Kindlewood Farms.

Over the past 6 years my husband, Matt, and I have learned a lot. Growing a farm comes with its fair share of loses, but the wins have always outweighed everything.

The first time loss seemed too great was a freak freeze March 12th 2022. We worked well into the night protecting our crops and bringing summer seedlings into our house. The seedlings survived. We lost everything in the ground except what was planted in our tunnel, Lillith. We overcame and had an amazing season.

The second time loss struck was the week of Christmas 2022, when the temperatures remained below freezing. The nursery greenhouse, Maple, kept the seedlings warm. We lost everything in the ground except what was in our 2 tunnels, Lillith and the new Mary Jane. We went on to have our largest spring full of the best celery because of our tunnels.

Today the loss is more than we can bare. The wind has destroyed all of our production tunnels. Lillith has our celery, radicchio, and salad. Mary Jane has our arugula, turnips, and mustard. Maple was prepped and ready to receive 180 cherry tomato plants.

These are not plants that can be replaced with time and sunshine. These are structures we accumulated over the years that protect our crops and extend our season. Thousands of dollars gone in one day.
