My hero

On Tuesday, august 8th around 10pm almost 2 months after purchasing our first home together, my fiancé Angie was mauled by a dog we were fostering to adopt through the NHS. The dog had only been in our home since Friday the 4th and up until this point had been a very gentle and cuddly dog. We just finished eating supper and sat down on the couch when Loki, an American Bulldog, began jumping on me and aggressively barking and had me pinned on the ground when Angie pulled him off of me by his harness and collar. The dog then began barking more aggressively and trying to go after me. Angie told me to hide in our bedroom while she put the dog in our guest room. When I started moving the dog began pulling Angie with him to get to me. As soon as Angie entered the guest room, the dog turned around and bit her left arm. Angie screamed and I exited our bedroom to go to her. I saw he had latched on to her right arm and was thrashing back and forth dragging Angie with. Angie was so strong and tried choking the dog with no success. I panicked and found our metal water bottle to hit the dog with to try and get him to release Angie. After realizing that hitting the dog wasn’t working to release his jaw from Angie, I ran to the couch to get my phone to call 911. Running back to the guest room, our personal dogs Charlie (husky mix) and Lucy (7lbs mutt) we’re trying to help Angie. Charlie bit onto the dogs hind quarters, which caused the dog to release Angie for a second, but then Loki turned to Charlie and I because he released Angie was able to position herself on top and try to put him in a choke hold. I was able to pull Charlie off and put him in our bathroom. Lucy was trying to get to Angie because she was scared, I managed to scoot Lucy to our bedroom and proceeded to call 911. The dispatcher did a very good job of getting the needed information through my screams and send police and paramedics to our address. Although it felt like an hour the first police car arrived within 3 to 4 minutes. A male and female officer exited the car. The male ran into the guest room with the female officer and I following. I saw Angie laying on the ground limp and then heard one single gunshot then no more barking. The officer had to shoot the dog to get him to release Angie. I ran outside and was in hysterics the female officer tried comforting me while more officers and paramedics arrived angie was transferred to unmc as a level 1 trauma and at 3am went into her first surgery. She is scheduled to have more in the coming days. She has been in lots of pain and discomfort. She is struggling to sleep because of flashbacks. Angie is a hero and truly saved my life she protected me with her life. To help cover cost from not being able to work for months we are setting up a go fund me and asking for donations. Thank you all who have said prayers for Angie and our family.
