On May 2nd, my boyfriend Jack was in a severe ATV accident that changed his life in seconds. The ATV flipped and fell on him, causing a devastating degloving injury to his dominant right hand. Since that day, he has undergone five major surgeries, including; Extensive debridement to remove damaged tissue, placement of multiple plates and screws to stabilize crushed bones, a skin flap surgery, where surgeons took tissue from his leg to rebuild and cover his hand, plate removal in a later procedure, ongoing reconstruction work to save as much function as possible. He still has more surgeries ahead, along with a long road of recovery and complications we’re still navigating.
Jack attends physical therapy three times a week and works every day to regain any movement he can. His doctors have been very honest with us: even after months of therapy and additional surgeries, Jack is only expected to regain 20–30% functionality in his dominant hand. This means he will never fully use his hand again. The accident permanently changed his future.
Before the injury, Jack worked in physically demanding trades — pipe fitting and construction That work wasn’t just a job to him; it was his pride, his identity, and the career he built his life around. Losing full use of his dominant hand means he can never return to those fields. It has been emotionally devastating, and every day is a reminder of everything he’s fighting to overcome.
Jack initially believed he would be put out of work for only a short time, but the reality is much harder. He will be unable to work for at least one full year from the injury date, and even after that, his career path will have to completely change.
We are raising funds to help support Jack through this long recovery — including medical costs, physical therapy, adaptive equipment, transportation to appointments, essential living expenses, and a small cushion for emergency situations while he focuses on healing and rebuilding his life.
Anything helps — truly. Your support means more than we can express as Jack fights through the hardest chapter of his life. Thank you for reading, and thank you for caring.
