Tuesday March 2nd 2021 Gus was diagnosed with a Mast Cell Tumor, a day shy of his 3rd birthday.
This has come as devastating news to us, he is the most loved boy and is still so
young with so many adventures to be had. This coming Tuesday we will be meeting with an Oncologist to take the next steps to have his tumor removed and get more insight on how we can proceed. Our hopes are high that the cancer has not spread.
Since December 2019 we have been dealing with on going allergy issues, just this past month we were finally referred to see a dermatologist at the University of Saskatchewan. We have gone through numerous food trials, medications and veterinarians to try to get him the help he needs. Nothing has worked for our boy as of yet. When we took Gus in to see Dr. Foster this last Tuesday, she found a lot of yeast on his skin which she thinks was caused by ongoing allergies that we haven't found. During this consult she also did a biopsy on a small pimple like lump around his armpit, it was then that she did the biopsy and found cancer.
As anyone with a pup who has struggled with on going medical issues, I'm sure you're all familar with the unfortunetaly high vet bills that come on top of the numerous diet trials and everything else. I myself made the mistake of not getting Gus pet insurance the day I brought him home. As soon as he had a single ear infection, basically everything due to his allergies were considered pre existing.
Where we stand currently, Gus will be starting 5 medications daily and an anallergenic prescription dog food. Tuesday we will be quoted on the rest of the costs for surgery and medications that come along with the treatment of his tumor.
