Stacey’s battle

On May 11th, 2020, our mom and your dear friend Stacey, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, after weeks of headaches and dizziness where she was diagnosed with tumorous brain cancer. Due to the pandemic, she spent her time in the hospital alone. At RIH, they performed tests, scans, and bloodwork, where they located a golf size mass at the base of her brain.

As the date of her surgery rolled around, we braced ourselves and sent all our love and hopefulness to our fierce mom, on the longest day of our lives. What typically would have been a two-to-five-hour major surgery lasted 7 drastically slow hours. The surgery was completed successfully, and while we were flooded with relief, we still held concerns.

On May 22nd, our mom was discharged from the hospital, and I rushed to pick her up. The wait for her to emerge from the hospital was antagonizing, but finally, she appeared. When she got inside my car, she held my hand and cried. At this moment, the strongest women I have grown to know broke down, and I decided then that it was our turn to take care of her in the ways she always has for everyone in her life. The road of recovery went smoother than we expected. Despite having major brain surgery, she showed minor side effects and managed her pain well. Doctors even recommended using a walker, and to none of our surprise, she shot this down and proved she did not need it.

On Tuesday, May 26th, while surrounded by family, doctors shared her biopsy results. The oncologist confirmed that our mom did have medulloblastoma, a cancerous tumor of the brain. The road ahead is long and uncertain. My sisters and I have taken this time to care for our mother like she always has for us. She has been a constant figure of strength, helpfulness, and true friendship, not only in our lives but in the lives of everyone she has interacted with. My sisters and I encourage you to reach out and show your support and appreciation to our tenacious and loving mother.

With all of this going on our loving mom has lost her job and with covid and treatments is going to be unable to work for awhile and the medical bills are starting to roll in, and with treatment being an on going thing it is uncertain when she will be able to get a job, so anything you can donate would be much appreciated.

Thank you with love
