Stroke rehabilitation for Michael McFadden

Dear Friends and Family,

 

 

We are reaching out to let you know we are beginning a campaign to help my Dad with his Therapy and medical bills, and we need all of your help.

 

 

You may have heard that my father suffered from a massive stroke in June of 2021. His life has been uprooted and we are planning for his future. His medical bills and therapy are a heavy burden that we’re hoping to get some help with.

 

 

Those of you who know my dad, love him, he has always been a bright spot for others. The stories you have shared with him, the times you have spent together are the most important parts of his life. I feel like I know you all individually from hearing your tales time and time again. My dad is always there for others, especially in times of crisis, he would lift spirits and share a drink and laugh… Although his laugh and his positivity are still very much a part of him, he needs his friends in this time.

 

 

The effects of the stroke have cost him dearly. He had a massive left side ischemic stroke which left the right side of his body partially paralyzed, although he has gained some function in his leg and foot he’s still unable to use his right arm. He also has aphasia, aphasia is the loss of the ability to understand or express speech. He is working very hard everyday on gaining function. I can tell you this, but you already know he has never been afraid of a challenge and he’s not backing down from this! He shows up everyday for himself, he gets out of bed, he eats, he walks himself in a walker to the gym and fights like a mad man to get his life back. I’ll never underestimate him, but his life will be forever changed.

 

 

The insurance companies haven’t been helpful, no surprise there. He has good insurance but the way they operate they continue to kick him out of location after location, citing one excuse after the other. Our only choice was to get him into a place that is out of pocket. We’re again at a place where he needs to go somewhere and our hope is somewhere he can call home. He will receive better therapy when he is at home and a more consistent way of life, but there are costs included in that.

 

 

It’s a long road, and my dad is in the fight. We hope to ease the financial burden, to give him the best opportunity so that he may find joy and some normalcy.
