Hello everyone and thank you for taking some of your precious time to read my story.
My name is Robert and I've recently become homeless in the Albany, NY area. I wasn't able to keep up with my rent because I only work part-time and have had trouble finding a second job.
I just turned 42 on October 15th and was locked out by the Sheriff's Office on the 13th. I'm a recovering addict and have been drug-free since March 5th of 2019. I currently take Suboxone to help with my disease. I also take 9 other medications for various health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and anxiety/mental health issues.
I've been trying to find places to sleep to keep warm, but it's been difficult. I haven't had much money coming in since June. I work at the local arena and we've had no events for most of the summer. We are just starting to get a few events over the next couple of months, but still nothing close to what I'd need to live.
I've been trying for some time now to find a second full-time job, but that's been a challenge in itself. I've been to prison twice for drug-related crimes due to using them daily. I have 3 felonies on my record, so it makes it extremely hard to find work. After my first relapse, I decided to turn my life around and get help, and praise be to the man above, I've done that for almost 7 years.
I'm just hoping there might be some generous people out there that might be able to help with food and possible housing if I'm able to raise enough.
Thank you once again for taking the time to read my story, and if anyone has any questions, please ask if allowed. This is the first time ever doing something like this, so I'm not sure how it works!
