Our mom, ( (Sandra) Sam Stone, has been diagnosed with cancer. Due to her cancer being somewhat "rarer" by the provincial government, and no studies have been done with the effectiveness of immunotherapy, she is not being given the opportunity to have it paid for by the government health care.
In Ontario, every cancer patient is given the opportunity to get this for free, even if it may not work on a low percentage of patients. In BC, 20% of patients are denied the chance for government funded treatment.
Her friend had stage 4 lung cancer 4 years ago, immunotherapy eradicated it and she is now cancer-free. Her Aunt in Ontario ((in her 80's) with breast cancer 3 years ago, was given it and is now cancer-free.
Mom has been accepted into the program, but it will cost her $10,000 per dose every 3 weeks for at least 6 treatments. Given that mom is currently on leave from work, extended health care for her wages and doesn't cover what the government pays for (even though they don't in thi case, she cannot really afford this, but they are trying to make it work.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for providing any assistance possible. If you are able to provide any financial help, please know that no amount is too small.
Thank you,
