I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.
The effects of the sexual abuse at age 13 had devastating consequences in my life. In order to cope with the ever-present and overwhelming pain, I sought out coping mechanisms which included: alcohol and drug addiction; unsafe casual sex; suicide attempts; and other harmful high-risk behaviours, to name but a few.
I had the courage and strength to give up my addictive behaviors and destructive coping mechanisms and face my pain head on which resulted in my healing. Now, from a position of healing, I am able to see the pain and suffering around me, something I was blind to before when all I could see was my pain.
I have now dedicated my life to educating about the harms of sexual abuse; advocating for change which helps reduce sexual violence; supporting victims and their families; and engaging the community in this important work.
I am in the initial stages of creating a nonprofit, which I desire to get registered as a charity, to assist gay, bi and trans men with a safe place to seek solace, community, understanding, and get the support they require to heal.
