Medical Fund for Dustin

Donation protected
On the night of May 18, 2020, Dustin was put in a difficult situation during a vehicle pile up on the Bonnet Carre Spillway, heading to New Orleans. He noticed a disabled vehicle on the bridge and pulled over to assist. We have learned now that this person was arrested for DUI, Wreckless Operation of a vehicle, and No Insurance. He was trying to offer the guy help and was concerned for his life. Unfortunately, the individual was not interested in assistance nor the safety of my husband or other concerned citizens who stopped to assist as well. We now know that the first vehicle which created the pile up was partially in the right lane and there was no time for Dustin to get out of the way. A vehicle with passengers crashed into the already disabled car belonging to the wreckless driver. That vehicle also struck Dustin, forcing his body to fly over the Spillway bridge 25ft forward and 30ft. down. He landed in the marsh lands thankfully in the mud and not in the water. The Fire Department and State Troopers worked hard to reach him with ladders, air boats, and when they finally got him out, he was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
Dustin is a hardworking, loving husband and father to two beautiful young children, Atlas and Freya. He is a good friend to many people across the country and has always cherished the friends and family that he has in his life. When he left that night, none of us could ever imagine something like this would happen. It is truly a miracle that he has survived. Although in critical condition, we do believe he will push through this. We have been faced with an event that will change Dustin's life forever, threatening the career he has worked so hard for and many other goals in the future that he had his eye on.
At this point in time, every rib on the left side of his body is broken and has caved in. His left knee and femur are broken. Right hip dislocated and pelvic fractured in multiple places. He has three spinal fractures and pneumothorax in his left lung with severe bruising on both.  He is having a very hard time breathing but keeping his oxygen levels up. We have been waiting all day for him to get called back for his pelvic surgery and then have to be prepared for the chest/rib surgery right after. CT scans of the head and stomach look good.
Dustin Wyatt and myself, Samantha Wyatt met in 2014 and married in 2017. We moved to the Portland/Vancouver area in the Pacific North West so that he could start his career with the railroad. After living there for about two years, he was able to transfer within the company to the Gulf Coast. We then happily landed in Lafayette, LA to live closer to family and have help with our young children while both of us have been working to build our own careers. I have organized this campaign for my husband, Dustin Wyatt and have added him as the beneficiary. All withdrawals made will go into his savings account and will be used accordingly for health, medical and rehabilitation expenses. Since we don't know what the medical costs are going to be, our family and friends have decided to start the gofundme at $75,000. Although his intensive care, rehabilitation, and physical therapy alone will likely cost much more. Please help donate to the cause. All money will be used for medical bills and rehabilitation. Please pray for Dustin and our family during this really difficult time.
