I am devastated to be typing this.. Lauren has been diagnosed with brain cancer after finding a tumor on her brain on Christmas Day. I never imagined I would be making a go fund me. This is a story I thought you only ever hear about a friend of a friend or someone you used to know, it’s not something that happens to your sister. She’s a new mother / wife / sister / daughter / best friend. An all around bad ass lady.
On December 23rd, Lauren’s week long headache turned into a migraine & on the 26th when it just wasn’t getting better she was taken to the emergency room. The meds & the IV were not improving her pain so a CT scan was ordered that resulted in the findings of a mass on her brain & a MRI that confirmed it was a tumor. Within 24 hour, Lauren was rushed into surgery to have the tumor removed from her brain because our skulls don’t leave much room for growth. She will soon go through chemotherapy & radiation to kill the cancer that is left. The path forward is still a tad unclear but I’ll keep this updated as we learn more.
Lauren’s diagnosis has been a shock to everyone who knows her as a healthy 31 year old who showed absolutely no symptoms prior to a headache. She has always been a pillar of strength for everyone around her, so it’s no surprise that she is determined to face this battle head-on. Sam hasn’t left her side once since the diagnosis and shows up for her in every moment with the positive attitude we all know and love him for. They also have their beautiful new 7 month old baby girl, Riley! The light of their life & a joy to everyone around them.
Lauren is incredibly strong, and we know she will fight this cancer and be the mother to Riley she has always dreamed of being, the friend we all adore and cherish and the daughter and sister we need and love. She is doing everything she can to fight, stay positive and look forward to a cancer-free future. Their strength as a couple is truly admirable.
Cancer not only takes a toll on a person’s physical health but can also pose huge financial challenges. We have created this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds that will help Lauren and Sam navigate the financial burdens associated with this medical journey. Funds will be used for medical treatments not covered by insurance, hospital stays, clinical trials, family travels for live in care, and other unforeseen expenses. They will go directly to the astronomical out-of-pocket costs they are suddenly faced with during their upcoming battle to save Lauren’s life.
Thank you for reading this & being here. Your generosity and kindness will not only provide financial relief but will also serve as a beacon of hope for them and their family. Thank you for your support to Lauren, Sam, Riley and Kona during this challenging time.
We also understand you may not be in a financial position to donate; and want to use this platform to raise awareness that cancer does not discriminate. If you do not feel right within yourself, you need to be your own advocate or an advocate for your loved ones to ensure your Doctors check you thoroughly and not be pushed aside. & don’t ever ignore a headache!
