Medical Costs for Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Update: we have a date for the transplant! The transplant is set for Friday, June 23rd. Please pray for favorable results of all the pre-op testing as well as for the transplant itself. Please pray for my family as well as the family of my generous donor.
Hello my name is Tim – I am a father of 3 wonderful children, 2 amazing stepchildren, and a grandfather to 4 sweet grandchildren. My wife and I live in the Atlanta area and we help care for our newest grandbaby as well as her aging mother. We are Christ-followers who live every day with peace and hope because we know that God is bigger than any trouble we may encounter…including my blindness and chronic kidney disease.
I would like to share with you an incredible story of God’s faithfulness. I have been on dialysis for about 1.5 years and was on the national kidney registry, waiting for a kidney donor. In September 2022, my wife and I started attending a small group through our church and there we shared my story and asked for prayers for a new kidney. I am a private person and was reluctant to share such a personal piece of my story with these “strangers” but God kept prompting me to share. Little did I know that God would reward my trust in Him with blessings beyond imagining. In October a member of the group approached me and told me that she wanted to be my donor. I was floored at the love and generosity of this woman that I had only known for just 1 month.
We have now completed the testing and all the pre-work and we are ready to move forward with the surgery. At the moment, my donor and I are waiting for God’s perfect timing for the transplant. I am truly blessed and honored to be the recipient of such kindness and love, but with this blessing comes many expenses. Because my kidney is coming from a living donor, I will have both my own expenses and the expenses of my donor to cover. Insurance only covers so much of the money that is needed for the operation and the post-operative care. I will be on medication and need medical care for the rest of my life to fight my body’s natural rejection of the kidney that is not mine. In addition to paying for any costs my donor and I incur from the surgery itself; I will also have to pay for multiple daily medications, follow-up doctor’s visits, transportation costs, etc. These costs will continue for as long as I live.
I am so grateful and look forward to the procedure that will free me from dialysis and give me an opportunity to live a more normal life, but my ability to pay for these expenses are very limited and that is the reason why I have set up this Go Fund Me page. Please pray for our surgery, for my donor and her family, and for the funds we need to make this all possible and successful. I know that with God, all things are possible, so I prayerfully wait for His gift of life to continue to unfold.
