Marcus Koesema's Recovery
Donation protected
As many of you have heard, our friend Marcus Koesema was in a freak motorcycle accident. Marcus had just arrived home from work to start the weekend. He decided to start up his 1978 Suzuki; take it down the street and back just to keep the bike running. For such a quick task, he didn't grab his helmet and started down the block. Right away, something went very wrong, the throttle became stuck and the bike began accelerating out of control down the hill dangerously close to the canyon at the end of their street. It all happened so fast, he ran into a block landscape wall, ricochet off of that and again heading toward the canyon. He tried to lay the bike down and in doing so, went straight into the pole at a very high rate of speed. It is presumed we was going around 40mph. It is a miracle he survived this and came out with only lower body trauma, especially with no helmet on. We are all so very thankful for that! However, his lower body has suffered extensive trauma with several breaks in both legs and his pelvis. It is predicted he will be in the hospital for a couple weeks and in a wheelchair for about 6 weeks thereafter. His total recovery is expected to take about 6 months. While we are thankful it is only a 6 month recovery, many of you know that Marcus is self-employed and does not benefit from sick leave, disability, etc. He is truly one of the hardest working people I have ever met and I know it will be so difficult for him to be confined to a wheelchair and bed rest while healing and not out there working. Unfortunately, when Marcus is not working, he is not making money. This is going to be very difficult for him and his longtime girlfriend and partner, Veronica. They are both going through so much right now. We wanted to setup this fund to see if we can help them offset upcoming medical bills and recovery cost, as well as help them with essential living expenses during recovery. Not wanting to set an overwhelming goal, we set it at $30,000, however, when you think of 6 months of not working plus everything else it is really not close to enough but anything will help. We all know how hard Marcus works and that he would never want to ask for help but I know that any help would alleviate at least some stress in this very stressful time. Marcus has so many great friends that if everyone can help in a small way, I have a feeling it will be a very big help. Thank you!
