I am a graduating Human Services student at Midlands Technical College and have been nominated to represent my school and community at the International Scholar Laureate Program: International Relations and Diplomacy in Beijing and Xi'an, China.
By attending the international relations and diplomacy program, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential (leadership/career exploration) program. I have provided a link of a sample of our itinerary for your review. As you can see, this will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with students who will be my future colleagues.
Attending this program will enable me to further my interest in the field of Human Services and reach my career goals of becoming a Licensed Independent Social Worker, Clinical Practice. I maintain a 3.66 GPA, while being involved with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands as a volunteer advocate and recently completed their speakers' bureau training, and an active member and volunteer within the church. Since January, I have been choosen as the Human Service Student of the Year (2013-2014), selected to be one of twenty three students state wide for the 2014 Phi Theta Kappa All State Academic Team, nominated for Who's Who, nominated for the All-USA academic team and have been a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the official honor society for two-year colleges since 1929, for over a year.
Imagine if you had been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were in school and were unable to participate for lack of funds. That is why I am writing to you today.
My participation in the program depends on whether I can raise $ 5750 in sponsorships and fundraising. (The program tuition is $3,395, my travel $1900 and incidentals (phone calls, souvenirs and lunches $750.00.)
