MATE ROV Competition (THE C-Turtles)

Give this underwater robot a chance to swim!
We are a team of nine very motivated and passionate Wentworth students who are engineering an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for the 2014 MATE robotics competition on May 3rd at UMass Dartmouth. The competition simulates the exploration and conservation of the environment of the Great Lakes in Michigan. This competition is important for a few big reasons.
First of all, it teaches students crucial information about science, technology, engineering, math, and team building to a degree that is not possible in a classroom alone. This knowledge can later be applied to underwater systems related to alternative energy, repair/construction, surveying, search and rescue, conservation, and national defense.
Secondly, it inspires young engineers to delve into unexplored underwater regions all around the world, of which 95% remains unseen. In all of this unexplored space there may be organisms that utilize chemical or electrical processes that we can develop new technologies from.
Finally, it gives us the opportunity to take all of the knowledge and inspiration we have gained from its undertaking and pay it forward to other students of all ages in the form of talks, demonstrations, and assistance to future ROV teams.
We've finished the research and design of this ROV and are ready to begin construction as soon as possible.
This is Wentworth's first year competing and so your contribution to this robot will help begin a continuing effort to expand our own knowledge and return your investment to the community.
