As most people who know me, I’ve had severe back issues for over 10 years now. Recently I’ve begun to deteriorate rapidly. Upon seeing several surgeons they’ve found that I am in desperate need of another back surgery. This would be my 14th spinal surgery. When I can walk, I’m bent nearly in half and my body has shifted completely to the left. They’ve found that one of the main brackets has broken away and is hanging, also that the majority of the screws holding the fusions have completely loosened and have nearly completely backed all the way out. My tail bone is breaking away from my spine.They also need to remove and replace bone in multiple areas and replace with a cement “type”substance as well as removing all of the hardware in my spine and replacing all of it. The surgery is approximately 10-16 hours long. Because of my insurance the surgeon’s billing office is demanding $4,000.00 up front.
If I’m unable to do so they will cancel the surgery. Also, because of the level of pain with this surgery they will be keeping me in an induced coma for at least 24 hours. I’ll be in the hospital for a minimum of a week and then will be sent to a rehabilitation hospital for a week or two. The $4,000.00 is my copay strictly for the surgeon. It doesn’t include the hospital, any care in the hospital or the rehabilitation hospital. I waited to do this because Brian and I were truly embarrassed to ask anyone for help. We did try a fundraiser at his job and only made $90.00. Sadly I need this money by June 12th. PLEASE,
I can barely walk at all anymore and spend most of my time stuck in bed. I want to be there for my children and my husband, not have them care for me. Most importantly, if this bracket breaks completely, it would cause severe complications and possible paralysis. Again, I realize this is last minute but anything you can give would be appreciated and no amount you’re able to give isn’t too small. Thank you in advance for any help you can be.
