All my life, I've admired my mother. She has always been someone who takes life in stride. No matter the circumstances she always keeps a positive outlook on life. She was the best mother a child could ask for. She was firm, loving, and was one heck of a shot from the free-throw line.
When my mom turned 40, her health took a turn for the worse. I can't even pronounce most of the things she has been diagnosed with. Most recently, she has been diagnosed with a parylized stomach and a colon that doesn't work. The treatment for her diagnosis is total parenteral nutrition or TPN. TPN is used for patients who cannot or should not get their nutrition through eating. It's essentially, being fed though an IV. This treatment is currently how she is staying alive.
While we are greatful for this treatment, it has proven to be costly...very costly. Currently, the treatment runs about $12,000 a month. Insurance is paying approximately 80% of this cost, leaving about $2,500 left to pay each month. Living alone, going through a divorce, and being unable to work, has put her in a situation where she won't be able to pay for the treatment. Her specialist has said that they will try 3 months of treatment and then see if her stomach and colon will "restart". She will probably have to do this for the rest of her life, but we are praying for a miracle. Most of you who know my mother, know that she is an awesome woman. She's not one to beg for help. But I feel that $7,500 for three months of IV treatment is beyond our reach. That's why we are asking for a help, for a miracle. Please consider giving to help cover the additional cost of her TPN.
