Dear family and friends,

About 2 months ago, Dr. Lagoa/Claudio started developing minor speech issues, initially thought to be caused by stress. Since his speech continued to worsen, a consultation with a neurologist was scheduled and a bunch of tests ordered. An MRI detected a brain tumor where the speech center is located. We finally had an explanation for his symptoms, but our world was knocked off its axis. We reduced our clinic schedule this last week to allow a lot more time for him to communicate with clients during his appointments and to just rest after such a huge revelation.

Claudio is scheduled to undergo a craniotomy on September 18. A biopsy will be performed to ascertain the type of tumor he has and to give us more of an idea of what post-op will look like. If all goes well, the recovery time will be 8-12 weeks during which time the clinic will be closed. We looked into hiring a relief veterinarian to help out, but the cost involved was prohibitive. We’re trying hard not to stress over the exorbitant expenses involved as well as the lost income while trying to remain calm in the face of a very scary time for us. Our insurance will cover a moderate portion of the total cost, but I worry about the final price tag once all is said and done.

It was suggested by a friend that we establish a GoFundMe to allow the community, our clients, family, and friends (and even strangers) to contribute to this journey with us through prayer, lots of positive vibes/thoughts, and some funds to help us carry the load of this very sudden development.
