Taten Babatz went to the ER on May 21st for abdominal pain. They ordered a routine CT to check for kidney stones only to learn his entire life would be turned upside down. In the past week he has been transported to the hospital daily, had two ambulance rides and countless tests and procedures. One procedure left him in convulsions due to extreme pain and the inability to use his right leg. I am happy to report the pain has gone down and he is able to walk again but they have had to insert a tube to drain his kidney because of a large mass in his abdomen. A cancerous mass. The doctors are still trying to determine the extent of this mass but it is pressing on the kidneys and preventing it to drain properly without intervention. It is in the appendix, possibly the colon and a spot on the liver. Next week he will have more tests to determine the extent of the impact on some of these organs and to have a port placed to start chemotherapy. The plan currently is for three months of chemo every two weeks and then to repeat the scans. They could recommend a total of six months for the desired result. If they can slow or reduce the mass, they would consider surgery to remove some of the tumor. It is not possible to remove all of it. If the chemo is unable to reduce the tumor, surgery may not be recommended. There is no cure. Tate had just started a new job and it’s not likely he will be able to return to work. His income has stopped and there are a lot of tough decisions ahead. Sharing this information with you is not easy for him. Please help if you can.
