Help Leo Walk Again
Hi everyone!
A couple of weeks ago, we noticed our big boy Leo lagging his left rear leg. Thinking it could be a sprain or arthritis acting up, we put him on bed rest hoping it would get better. Unfortunately, it’s gotten worse where he can’t bear any weight on it anymore.
We’ve since taken him to the vet where many x-rays and other tests have determined he’ll need emergency Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery.
Short version: his knee bones are now rubbing against each other causing him tremendous pain. A specialist will have to grind down his bones and fit a custom plate in order to have him walking again. Recovery time will be lengthy and arduous. Also, with his right rear leg not being 100% due to age (he’s ~7 yrs old) and having to over compensate while his left heals, the likelihood of his right leg needing surgery in the near future is almost guaranteed.
The total cost for one surgery is $4,000 alone, we would also have to take time off work initially to take care of him, along with many other post surgery expenses.
We know this year has been financially hard for many, especially during the holidays, but we would not be asking for help if it wasn’t dire. We sincerely thank each and everyone who can donate a few dollars or share this need with others.
For those who don’t know Leo, well what can we say, he’s the biggest goofball with zero body awareness of size or weight, who is happiest frolicking in a forest all day. He’s our big suck of love and our world.
