Support My Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I am reaching out to share my story and ask for your support as I face a significant challenge in my life. In 1991, I suffered a 30-foot ground fall while rock climbing, which resulted in multiple breaks to my tibia and fibula. Over the years, I've undergone numerous surgeries and treatments, including battling a severe bone infection and enduring bone grafting from my right hip, all in an attempt to regain my mobility and live a pain-free life.
Despite my best efforts and the dedicated work of my medical team, the damage to my leg has become irreparable. On September 27, I will undergo a trans-tibial amputation of my right leg (below the knee). This decision, though difficult, is a necessary step toward relieving my pain and reclaiming my mobility and active lifestyle.
Following the surgery, I will face considerable expenses for physio therapy and prosthetics, which are essential for me to return to my active lifestyle. My passion for cycling, teaching kayak lessons and offering kayak tours in Manitoba drives me to recover as fully as possible. The road to recovery includes 8 to 10 weeks of healing, followed by extensive physiotherapy to learn how to walk, ride, and drive once again.
I am launching this GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of my prosthetics and rehabilitation. Your generous donations will make a profound difference in my life, helping me regain my mobility and continue doing what I love.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring me closer to my goal. Your support will not only aid in my physical recovery but also uplift my spirits during this challenging time. I am incredibly grateful for any assistance you can provide.
Thank you for being a part of my journey and for making a difference in my life.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Brett
