I'd like to take a moment to share our story with you all in hopes that we may seek some kind of help and support at this time of need. My name is Kayla Snead, I am 21 years old and my brother's name is Dustin Snead , 18 years old. Just about 3 weeks ago we recieved a phone call that our father had suffered severe brain injuries and was being flown to shock trauma and might not make it. The news was shocking. My father, Raymond Snead was only 48 years old, in good health, hard working man andalways very active. When we arrived at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma he was unresponsive , they had informed us that he has suffered a severe cardiac arrest and was unconscious for a long period of time which caused him to loose a substantial amount of oxygen to his brain causing severe swelling. They told us the outcome did not look good. They began running tests and tansferred him to the Intensive Care Unit where they ran more tests and began to try and treat him. There were many complications along the way . He caught pneumonia and from that his body developed a severe lung disease called ARDS. This made it very difficult on the recovery of my father. They began treating the disease, while still keeping him on full support oxygen. However the disease did not seem to be progessing or getting any better. The doctor's ran more tests, they took a MRI of his brain and had the University Of Maryland Neurologist Team step in and take over his case. From the results of the MRI the doctor's informed us that the damage done to his brain was in the cerebral cortex, which controlled many ways of how you and your body functions. They said with the amount of swelling his brain has suffered, they came to the conclusion that he was without oxygen for a long period of time, a lot longer than a human being can go without oxygen to their brain. The doctor's are unsure of what caused the cardiac arrest , they said it could be a number of multiple things. They had explained to us that they have tried everything medically possible to help bring him back but they told us that unfortunately they do not see him coming back from this. Its been a long 3 weeks and he is such a strong man and has held on fighting for so long. At 1 am this morning on August 17th, 2015 i got the phone call that our father, our only parent, passed away. God has gained one of his greatest angels today. This is extremely hard for my brother and I, considering that we are living on our own and my father was not married, and did not have life insurance to help cover any expenses, they left it upon us to make arrangemets and cover the funeral expenses. We are reaching out to any and everyone that could please help us in any way possible, we would greatly appreciate it!
