Ian ( Droopy ) Foster

It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the sudden passing of Ian Foster, lovingly known as “Droopy.” While on a family holiday in Benidorm, Ian and his wife Mary were involved in a jet ski accident. After falling into the water, Ian—who had only one lung—struggled to get back on the jet ski, which sadly placed too much strain on his heart. Despite efforts, could not be saved. Mary was left devastated, calling out for help, but support was limited in those critical moments.

Ian was a big-hearted, funny, and vibrant man who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. A true character, he was deeply loved by his wife Mary, his children, in-laws, and grandchildren. He was their hero, and his loss has left a hole that can never be filled.

This heartbreaking event has come as a complete shock to the family, both emotionally and financially. We are now asking for your kindness and support to help give Ian the funeral he truly deserves. The money raised will go directly towards covering funeral costs and also supporting the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, who played a vital role in helping bring Ian home to his loved ones.

We want to provide a quick update on Ian’s situation. His Spanish death certificate has been received, but heartbreakingly, it lists the cause of death simply as “deceased” — offering no explanation to his grieving family.

Mary, alongside Ian’s GP, had requested a second autopsy to be carried out back home in Belfast. Sadly, due to complications and errors on the Spanish side, this request has been denied.

This is a devastating setback, but Ian’s family will not give up. They are determined to uncover the truth and bring Ian home where he belongs — surrounded by the love and care of his family in Belfast.
