At Barnard Academy, we’d like to be able to offer our students a hot lunch program. The students and the kitchen in the photo are not yet ours, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could offer this? This summer our small kitchen will be renovated and expanded to become a receiving kitchen, but we still need to purchase the equipment required to receive food from an outside food vendor or WCSU food service. In order to serve meals, we will still need commercial equipment, including a refrigerator, steam table, convection oven(s), dishwasher, dish sink, trays and silverware. This kitchen won’t be just for feeding the students. Our teachers will also use this kitchen space to incorporate Farm to School and other lessons into the curriculum, teaching our students about nutrition and healthy eating habits, as well as using food as a pathway to teach topics such as math, science, nutrition, and environmentalism. Please support this important effort! We have students at Barnard Academy who need food… let’s feed them!
