Lady's Vet Bills
Donation protected
Lady is our polydactyl kitty that we rescued pregnant from the streets about 5 years ago. She's been having trouble eating recently and her health has declined. She was very lethargic and getting skinny. On Sept. 18th she started refusing food altogether.
We took Lady to the vet Sept. 19th for blood work. She has elevated liver levels and is jaundiced. We're not financially able to get the diagnostic tests done to narrow down the exact cause, but they treated her symptoms with fluid injections, a steroid shot, antibiotics and a topical gel that will help her appetite. She will eat small amounts of wet food and her favorite treats now that she's on medicine.
On Sept. 27 Lady was hospitalized overnight at Berea Advanced Animal Care to try to resolve her extreme constipation they found on X-ray. The vet tech said she's about as backed up as she's ever seen a cat. They redid her blood work and her liver enzyme levels are still elevated and she's anemic. Hopefully getting her regular will help some of her other problems. She's been eating pretty well the past week but there's nowhere for it to go! Anything helps. All sales from my store will go toward her as well as the GoFundMe. Thank you again to everyone who's helped so far.
Sept. 28th we got a call back from the animal hospital and she isn't showing much sign of improvement. Her stomach was still full of food but not digesting. They tried a medicine to help her bowels contract, but they mentioned surgery. They will give us an estimate if it's needed, but I can imagine that we can't afford surgery. Later that day the vet called us back with updates. Her meds helped her stomach contents move along a bit, which is great news. Surgery isn't imminent at the moment, but still a possibility in the future. They kept her hospitalized overnight again to see if she improves further.
Sept. 29th Lady came home from the hospital! She's on several meds to keep her stable and we have a follow-up X-ray appointment next Tuesday. We're staying vigilant about her food/water intake and bowel movements. More updates as we have them!
Lady had a follow-up X-ray the morning of October 3rd and was cleared to stay home for 2 weeks! The vet says she's making steady improvement, and as far as they can tell she had/has Triaditis which effects the digestive system, pancreas and liver. She is still taking medication and goes back on October 17th for another checkup, but she's stable and seems happy.
I'm not sure how much her bills will be overall, but we aren't able to afford anything ourselves so every dollar helps. So far we've accumulated over $1000 in bills, paying as we go with the help of GoFundMe, my store sales and in person donations. Thank you to everyone who donates and has donated for helping our baby feel better.
