This last year has been a medical nightmare. I have been in the hospital four times for leg infections. The last visit included a bout with sepsis. I have finally gotten into a specialist for the swelling in my legs. I have lymphedema which has been the source of my rapid leg infections. I did also have a deep vein clot to start the year off. From talking to the specialist I’ve had signs of lymphedema for the past four years. It’s unfortunately an easy to miss issue and not super common since it looks just like swelling. I have been on lasics for years to try to treat it to no success. The specialist stated that treatment would never have worked because lymph fluids are not just liquids. So for all those efforts I was not making progress on the swelling. The treatment will need lifelong attention to stay ahead of it. The good news is that it can get better like a sprained ankle. Never back to fully functional but back to effective. In order to get there I need to get circulation pumps for my legs and go through a few months of two therapy sessions a week to move the fluids out of my legs. This will keep me from getting additional leg infections. Each of my hospital trips this year has been a full week of hospital care. I have significant medical bills from this in spite of insurance. Only 80% coverage and only after my deductible was met. At this point I’m asking for help. I will keep floating my bills for the hospital as much as I can but can’t get the equipment without paying up front. Please share and help if you can. I’m desperate not to go to the hospital again. They’ve said next visit I’d probably have to get a central IV line which will be very painful since my veins are beat from all the previous trips. I’m honestly scared to need to go again. So I’m doing everything I can to prevent it.
