Fred Vignali’s Fight
Donation protected
Our dad, Fred has been battling head, neck, and throat cancer since May of 2010. A few months back, we found out that his cancer has now spread to his lymph nodes and lungs, as well as manifested as lesions on his skin. Although he has been undergoing vigorous treatment, the cancer is continuing to spread.
On December 4th, he had a chemotherapy port inserted as well as a tube in his throat to help with breathing. This surgery, along with chemotherapy and radiation, has left him weak and virtually bed-ridden. He is losing weight quickly and is unable to eat. He was scheduled for surgery to get a feeding tube on December 20th. However, on December 19th, during his routine chemotherapy appointment, it was discovered that his blood counts are dangerously low. He underwent an emergency blood transfusion. This meant that his feeding tube surgery needed to be postponed for risk of infection.
Due to his increased weakness and ongoing treatment and surgery, he is unable to care for himself and is unable to work. Our mom, Sue has been acting as his aid. This means she is regularly having to miss work to care for him and bring him to appointments in Boston. She is working on getting an aid for him. However, it is unclear as to whether this can be covered by insurance. Our father's illness has taken an immense tole on our family physically, emotionally, and financially.
We have been asked often how people can help in this difficult time. Along with prayer, financial support would truly bless my parents. Any and all money raised will go directly to my their mortgage, bills, groceries, and fuel for their car for multiple weekly trips to Dana Farber. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Fred has a long road ahead of him, but those of you who know him know he is a fighter. Thank you for your support, prayers and generosity.
