In 2012 I learned that I had chronic kidney disease and that I needed a kidney transplant eventually. I have been on dialysis since 2013 and have been listed on the transplant list in Honolulu and San Francisco. Recently I've been told that I am high on the list to receive a transplant and it could happen in either Honolulu or San Francisco. If it does happen there are some cost that I might have to cover during the transplant and recovery. The insurance and medications are some of the cost I have to cover, supplemental health insurance will cost me around $525 a month and medicine will cost around $800 to $1,000 a month after transplant for the first 3 months after surgery. It will also cost more if I have to travel to San Francisco for the surgery, which would include airfare and one month of housing in San Francisco after the surgery, until I am cleared to travel back to Hawaii. This could cost around $2,000 for airfare because it will be purchased when I am called to receive a transplant and housing which could cost around $3,000 to $4,000. So my budget is around $12,000 and I hope that I can cover most of this cost but if I cannot I hope that with the generosity of friends and family that I will have some funds to help with this transplant. Thank you.
