Megan Penny was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) on March 9, 2016. She will start chemo on March 11th. Megan plays catcher for the Fontainebleau High School softball team in Mandeville, LA. Megan is sweet and has a heart of gold. She is the teenaged daughter of my daughter's summer softball coach. Even though Megan was busy with practices and games for her own team, at least once a week she would spend a couple of hours in the Louisiana heat and humidity helping the younger girls with catcher drills. She attended softball tournaments for the younger girls and cheered them on. Closer to my own heart she would also take photos for me since I was recovering from major surgery and couldn't attend.
Fast forward to this school year - Megan plays for FHS in a district game on 3, 2016 and scores a home run! Life is great!!! On Tuesday, March 8th her mom takes her to the pediatrician for what they thought was a bad stomach virus. The pediatrician admitted her to the hospital and her parents were shocked to find out that she had leukemia!! The next day she was transferred to a hospital across the lake (40 miles from home) and having additional testing to determine the exact type of leukemia.
Never does Megan give up! She is determined to beat the ALL and return to the softball team and school. She declares I am not going out like this!
The exact cost of her treatment is unknown at this point, because they don't know which combination of chemo drugs will be effective. Funds are needed to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance and out of pocket expenses by the family located away from home. When more specific information is available it will be posted.
Megan and her family are just "good people". They will do anything for anybody. If you are a parent you can imagine how stressful it must be to go from "stomach virus" to chemo in the matter of a few days for your child. Imagine how much more stressed you would be if you weren't sure how the treatment and out of pocket expneses would be paid?!! Eddie and Jennifer need to focus all their attention on the emotional and physical support for their daughter Megan as she goes through the chemo treatment! Please help us reach that goal by donating to Megan's cause.
The family and friends are grateful for your prayers of healing for Megan as well as peace and comfort for the family, including her younger sister.
Thank you so much for your prayers and your donations. Every penny is greatly appreciated!
