Help me in this battle!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
My name is Christopher Robert Meyer.
I was born and raised in Chino Hills, California.
Senior year in high school at the age of 17, I was diagnosed with a rare progressive genetic disorder called Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA) with no treatment or cure.
“I was confused and devastated”
I went through many years of denial, and depression.
Eventually I found acceptance of my disability and life moved forward but my condition worsened.
Now 25 years later, I am wheelchair bound, battle multiple symptoms including diabetes, have speech and hearing difficulties, and poor dexterity and coordination.
Friedreich’s Ataxia affects every part of my daily life.
Throughout my experience I found the only way to slow down the progression of my disease was physical exercise.
I've adapted my hobbies and activities by using many different mobility aids to accommodate my abilities.
Particularly my physical activities , despite my condition, keeping myself moving was important to me.
Friedreich’s Ataxia slows me down in everything I do but it doesn’t stop me from doing much.”
Now at the age of 41 , with severe progression of symptoms and many years of trials The FDA has approved a treatment for Friedreich’s Ataxia called Skyclars.
Skyclars is hopeful to slow or stop progression and gain some nuerological function.
After months of battling insurance I have gotten approved to receive an oral dosing daily.
“I’m excited to see the results!”
Along with the daily dosing of the drug. I hope to accelerate my exercise routines.
Over the past year, I have been attending an exercise based paralysis therapy gym, called The Perfect Step .
I have noticed and felt slowed progression of my symptoms. ….But now I’m asking for help so I can go multiple times a week to
The Perfect Step while on Skyclars.
Insurance does not cover many aspects throughout disability.
My physical capabilities limit my income.
My friends and family have supported me throughout my experience with this disability.
Once again…..I am asking for financial assistance to increase my physical exercise by attending The Perfect Step. Which have the knowledgeable therapists and necessary equipment for disability.
I will keep everyone updated on this journey of this newly approved treatment along with intense exercise at The Perfect Step.
Thank you for your time!
Love, Chris Meyer
