My name is Tony Batts. I'm a veteran residing in Sharpsburg, N.C. I'm trying to raise $1577 to pay back rent and late fees to avoid final eviction. I got behind on my rent due to several factors: 1. Living in a high utility billing area (average utility bill for last 3 months is around $700; 2. I am the only one working because my wife suffers from a seizure disorder (Social Security disability claim pending); 3. Because I'm the only one working, I fell behind in paying other bills (i.e. car payment, car insurance, phone, food). My family and I were evicted on Monday, 1/4. We've been living in a hotel since then. The money would go straight to the landlord (B&H Realty), not to me. I really need the funds no later than 5 pm, Monday, 1/11. This would really mean a lot to me and my family to avoid being homeless. So far, the National Veterans Services Fund has pledged $500, but only on the condition that I come up with the balance of $1077. I have called everything local outreach agency in the area, to include my own church, but with no sucess. I would be eternally grateful for any assistance we would receive. Thank you very much.
