Emergency surgery for Ellie

Hello,

My name is Shelby Lanterman and in June of 2022, I adopted my ten year old pug Ellie from the Nashville Pug Rescue. When I adopted her, she instantly became one of the most important parts of my life. I love her more than anything, and she and I have developed a bond that is indescribable. We’ve had many incredible adventures together, including moving from Tennessee to California with each other.

Unfortunately about a month ago in late July 2023, we discovered that she has a lung disease that has made it incredibly difficult for her to breathe. She was gasping for air for many hours at a time, and it got to the point where she couldn’t fall asleep at night because she was fighting for air. When we took her to the vet, they advised we go straight to the small animal emergency hospital at UC Davis in California. The amazing doctors at Davis diagnosed her with this lung disease and ended up deciding to keep her there to get her on a mechanical ventilator. They were able to get her surgery done and currently the next step is for her to be weened off the ventilator to breathe on her own.

She has been at the hospital for almost a week now, and she is fighting for her life everyday. As you can imagine, I’m riddled with worry and fear for her, as she is the best dog in the world and doesn’t deserve to go through all of this trauma.

I do need to mention that all of the people at UC Davis have been incredible, and I can’t imagine a better place for Ellie to get the care she needs.

That being said, the money part of this has become a huge unavoidable burden. We have to do everything we can for Ellie, but that has obviously become a much larger financial responsibility than anyone could’ve imagined.

I’m hoping to raise enough money so that Ellie can get all the care she needs, and can come home free of health concerns. She deserves to live her best life, without any worry. I humbly ask for your financial help to make sure she gets what she needs and can get back to being the silly girl she is.
