I have lived in this home for 11 years. The owner must sell it as her husband has cancer and she needs the money. She has actually served me with an eviction a five day notice. I’m in the throws of the whole court process now and I’m waiting for my case to be assigned a court date.This is a bad time to be renting as I’m sure you are all aware.
The most up to the minute changes now seem rather final. All of the above is/was true and I submitted all the paperwork to the court within the 5 day window. All I could do was wake up everyday and call the court to see if my case had been assigned a court date. My landlord didn’t submit her paperwork for another two weeks. 8/01/2023 she submitted her paperwork to the court and the revised pic is the official court notice of 08/16/2023.
My lawyer (assigned to me which I do appreciate) said that unless I want an eviction on my record I should be out of the premises before 08/16/2023. Then attend my hearing and show pics that I am out. If I remain in the house beyond 08/16 it will become a permanent record. This is a most stressful situation.
So you say/ask just go find an apartment and move right?! Another fatal snag. Rent has skyrocketed. All landlords/rental agencies are now requiring that you bring in a minimum of 3X the rent to qualify. I’m on SSDI and I don’t bring 3X the rent. So I applied for section 8 voucher program which I’ve been placed on a waiting list because no one can afford to live in California any more. The demand is huge.
So I now need a co-applicant to make the money work. No taker (which I understand). So yes becoming homeless is where I’m headed. Btw paying half of your benefit check to rent is normal for SS/SSDI individuals. ♂️
Why did I just explain all of this. At the risk of losing your attention/interest in reading such a long story. I did it to dispel any notion that I may be lying or a scammer. Circumstances/conditions change which has only been more stressful for me. My goal is a true goal.
