I am a 75-year-old widow of a Disabled Veteran. I am facing the loss of my husband of 31 years, as well as our house and car.
Social Security benefits and VA benefits have been applied for and could take another 6 months before payment starts.
Meanwhile, bills are piling up and money is down to the dregs. The total monthly income will be $2,000 less than our previous monthly income, and we were barely scraping by.
I have contacted every Veterans Assistance group that I can find, and the stories are all the same; funds are no longer available due to grants not being approved and government cutbacks.
I have spent the majority of my life caring for and loving my disabled husband and taking care of myself. Asking for help now is very difficult for me. My friends and family have been very supportive and helpful, but like most of us these days, they are all in similar financial difficulties.
If you can spare as little as $10, it will really help me to get by.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Mollie Miller, surviving spouse of Howard.
