Thank you everyone for taking the time to visit this Campaign for my niece Emerson. Emerson Thorpe who resides in Southington, CT with her Mom, Dad, brother and sister, was born deaf. She had her first surgery to get ready for her Cochlear Implants at the age of 1. When Emerson was born, we knew she was a spitfire right away. Emerson is going to be 5 in October and since her first Implant, Emerson has learned to read lips, sound words, talk sentences, tell stories, read books, listen to music, sing, attend in a dance class and dance on stage to the music with her dance-mates in front of her whole family. She attended Soundbridge, a school for those with hearing loss and come September will be attending Kelley School in Southington, the same public school that her brother and sister currently go to this fall! Amazing right???!!........remember that spitfire comment, well, she has become that and so much more!
The last week in July, our family takes a "Beach House" vacation every year. This year was the same as last year. We went to Narrangansett of course. The kids love the waves! Well one wave came and knocked Emerson, her Mom and cousins out. Not only that but knocked Emerson's cap that was holding her implants, but both implants into the crashing ocean water. With all being okay, we immediately threw ourselves to the bottom of the ocean frantically looking for her implants. Miraculously, one of our Aunts was able find 1. As you know, the other one never turned up. Jillian, Emerson's Mom didn't give up looking though, none of us did. She had two peole with metal detectors on the beach keeping an eye out, the beach cleaning crew, the lost and found, people on fb, strangers on the beach, digging through pounds of seaweed. Every day we walked with our heads down to see if the other one would turn up. The cost of these implants are not cheap and unfortunately this one was not covered by Insurance.
So I am asking you to help me raise money so we can help Emerson get her other another Implant back.
