Brylie became ill on 1/13/16 with a tummy ache and some vomiting. On 1/14 she was admitted Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell and then transferred to Avera Sioux Falls by ambulance. We were hoping it was just her appendix or constipation/ dehydration but what we found out is that her spleen is not in the right position and she had no blood flow to this organ. Unfortunately our worst fears were confirmed on Saturday that her spleen was dead and our lives, especially Brylie's, forever will be changed. After countless tests and blood work, we have also discovered that Brylie may have a clotting disorder. Because of how complex of a patient she is Brylie has been flown to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  The pediatric specialists at Mayo report they found she has a floating spleen which is very, very rare. Something, which is unknown, caused the main artery to twist which caused a complete splenic infarct. We are still waiting on blood test results for blood disorders/diseases. We have been told how  extremely rare her symptoms are, especially because she is only 23 months old! Brylie is also among only 500 other cases seen in the world with her diagnosis. Dr Fischer, a pediatric specialist, called Brylie a "miracle baby". The scariest part is we still don't what is in store for us. We do not know what the future holds for Brylie! We have been educated about the potential need of taking continuous antibiotics or possibly blood thinners. A lot will depend on further testing. 
This is what we do know, and heavily advised by the doctors, when she is better is to hire a private caregiver. Unfortunately she will not be able to attend daycare due to being without a spleen and the lack of antibodies she has developed at this young age. This of course will be a hardship as both Jackie and Jason are very new to their positions of work (Avera Integrative Therapy Services and Mount Vernon Plankinton School District), and are also expecting a new baby in May! Whatever can be done to help alleviate their expenses will be so appreciated!
