Kyle and His Girls

My name is Kyle. I am 34 years old and a single Dad of two little girls. Jalynn is 7 years old and Zoey is 6 years old. I have custody of Zoey, my biological daughter, and guardianship of Jalynn, Zoey's half-sister, who I have known since she was 3 months old. Jalynn is as much of a daughter to me as Zoey. These two girls are my world.
On August 31, 2015 I became sick with a fever and flu like symptoms. I was sick with a fever (of unknown origin) for over 4 weeks. During this time I went to my family doctor 3 times, a med-check once and the ER---all with no definite answers. My Mother and Father-in-law took my girls in on August 31 because I was too sick to take care of them and we didn't want them to "catch" whatever this was. August 30 was also the last time I worked and received a pay check.
In late September, after a couple days of my fever only getting to 101, I thought I might be getting better. So on Thursday, September 24 my Mom and I met with an attorney to start the legal proceedings of "officially" adopting Jalynn (she wants to have the same last name as Daddy and Zoey; and I want to officially/legally be her Daddy). Friday, September 25 at 4am my fever spiked to 105 degrees and ended up back in the ER. I was diagnosed with endocarditis, an infection in my heart. I also was told that I had a heart defect, that I unknowingly had since birth as well as a large anuerysm in my aorta. I was immediately admitted to the hospital for more tests and antibiotics. The infection in my heart resulted from bacteria in my mouth from a dental cleaning (or possibly from simply flossing or brushing). And because of my congenital heart condition, the infection settled in my heart.
After 2 weeks in the hospital, 2 weeks of IV antibiotics, 14 doctors (internal medicine, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, and infectious disease), and numerous tests, I was released with a pic-line to receive daily antibiotic infusions to get rid of the infection. The doctors agreed that I needed to get as much of this infection cleared up for open heart surgery. I went daily to an infusion center for antibiotics until Sunday, October 25. During this time I could not work, could not take care of my girls and was pretty much wiped out from the infection. On Friday, November 6 I had another heart test that showed I needed to have open heart surgery sooner than later.
So on Thursday, November 19 I had my aortic valve replaced, my mitral valve repaired and the anuerysm in my aorta removed and aorta "rebuilt". Big deal stuff for 34 years old! Big deal stuff waking up from this surgery! Big deal stuff to recover from! But I made it; I had a "rock star" of a heart surgeon, an awesome cardiologist, the best infectious disease doc and a wonderful support system of family and friends. I had my girls to get better for(they were with me alot during my first 2 week stay in the hospital---docs and nurses let them use their stethoscopes to listen to my heart; they took me for walks in the hospital; their classmates made cards and posters for me---we kept it light and positive for them). I went home (to my Mom's because I could not live alone for a few weeks post surgery AND MY GIRLS WERE THERE!) on Tuesday, November 24. My poor Mom was taking care of ME (it was quite the job!), my girls, a home, school, and the holidays. But we made it!
I am currently in cardiac rehab 3 times a week and slowly getting stronger and more energetic. I'm still not working--in fact I'm not sure of my future job. Before getting sick I worked in plumbing, heating and cooling--a very physical job that my doctors are saying I shouldn't do (at least for the near future). I NEED to get back to making money. I have my daughters to support, a home, a life to live.
And attorney bills to pay so I can get Jalynn the same last name as Zoey! No work, no income, medical bills, my girls,...these are the reasons I am on gofundme. I could use some financial support to get back on my feet. I was a strong, healthy, active Dad 5 months ago. This has taken me down financially, physically, and emotionally. I am ready to get back to my life. I would be most grateful for any help.
Thank you. Kyle
