Hi, my name is Becky, and I’m Katie’s mom.
I never imagined I would be writing something like this… but today, I’m reaching out because our family needs help.
If you know Katie, you know she is the one who shows up.
She’s the person people call when they’re hurting, overwhelmed, or just need someone to lean on. Strong. Independent. Steady. The kind of person who quietly carries others without ever asking for anything in return.
She’s a loving aunt, as well as a proud godmother to three girls. She’s deeply woven into the lives of her family and friends, always creating connection, always making people feel seen. And if you’ve ever met her, you know her heart doesn’t stop with people… she’s opened her home to two dogs, two cats, and even a feral cat who found safety with her.
That’s who Katie is… she gives.
Over the years, she has chaired and co-chaired many fundraisers and was also part of saving someone’s life during a medical emergency. She didn’t hesitate. She just stepped in. Because that’s the kind of person she is.
Now, Katie is the one facing the fight.
She has recently been diagnosed with a BRCA-related breast cancer and will begin chemotherapy next week. Her treatment is expected to last about six months, followed by a double mastectomy.
And somehow, even in the middle of all of this… she’s still Katie.
She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her. In fact, that’s been one of the hardest parts. She’s facing this with strength, with humor, and with a quiet determination that humbles everyone around her. She has even chosen to participate in a case study, hoping that her journey might help someone else one day.
But the truth is… this road is going to be long.
Between the cost of treatment and time away from work, the weight is beginning to build. More than anything we want Katie to focus on healing… and not financial stress.
Katie would never ask for help herself.
So I’m asking for her.
If you’re able to give, no matter the amount, it would mean more than we can ever express. And if you can’t, sharing this or keeping Katie in your thoughts and prayers would mean just as much.
Thank you for showing up for her… the same way she has always shown up for so many others.
With love,
Becky
