Help us save our Meg

This is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to write, but we’ve reached a point where we can’t do this alone. We need help—for our sweet girl, Meg.
In December 2024, we brought home an 8-month-old Xoloitzcuintli who we named Meg. From the moment she entered our lives, she filled our days with love, laughter, and endless cuddles. But what we were unaware of was that Meggy had already been battling serious health issues—ones that only grew more alarming as time went on.
Almost immediately, we noticed something was off. She struggled to breathe properly, had constant nasal discharge, and couldn’t keep food or water down. She was soon diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia—but the cause remained unknown.
From January through to April, she was on antibiotics that helped manage the infection and symptoms but never fully cleared it. We knew something deeper was wrong.
Desperate for answers, we drove 10 hours from our home in northern Ontario to a trusted family friend’s veterinary clinic. There, they sedated her for a full exam—and we finally got answers. Meg was diagnosed with a paralyzed larynx, which explained all her eating, drinking, and breathing issues. A lung sample also revealed a severe infection caused by E. coli and Fusobacteria. Her medications were adjusted to fight these infections.
But before we could move forward, things took a devastating turn.
Just last week, a small scratch on Meg’s leg turned into a large, dark bruise. We also noticed more unexplained bruising on her body. Bloodwork confirmed one of our fears- Meg has zero platelets. Her blood can no longer clot at all. She’s now at critical risk of internal bleeding, and her life is in danger.
She’s started medication to try and increase her platelet count—but every day is a fight.
So far, we’ve done everything we can for her—physically, emotionally, and financially. We’ve already spent close to $10,000 on her care. But now we’re facing even more: more bloodwork, stronger medications, intensive monitoring, and—if she becomes stable—life-changing surgery. She has a consultation scheduled next month, but it requires another 10-hour drive each way.
Meg isn’t just our dog. She is family. She is our love, our comfort, and our brave girl. We’ve seen her resilience, her sweetness, and her will to live—and we’re not giving up on her. But we can’t do it without your help.
If you’re able, any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Megs medical care. If you can’t give, please consider sharing her story. Your kindness and support mean the world to us and could be what helps save her life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us and fighting for Meg.
