My dear co-worker and friend Maria is 45 years old and was diagnosed with breast cancer this past January 15, 2025. Her initial care plan included a lumpectomy followed by radiation. Maria went in for a lumpectomy on March 25, 2025. Unfortunately, once under anesthesia the surgeon found lymph nodes full of cancer. He said prior to surgery there was inclination it had spread. They ended up removing a total of 28 lymph nodes. Maria's care plan has now changed again. It will now include chemo for 5 months. The first chemo concoction will be a mixture of Adriamycin and Cytoxan for 8 weeks and that will be followed by 12 weeks of Taxol. Her chemo plan will need to be followed by radiation. After radiation her treatment plan will include 5 years of anti-estrogen therapy and 2 years of targeted therapy.

Maria is single mother of five with 3 still at home. Due to this diagnosis Maria has had to miss a lot of work for appointments before and after surgery. Maria is trying to stay focused on fighting and kicking cancer butt but does stress of managing a home while receiving treatment.
