Make my Dream come True
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kathy and I am asking for your support to make my dream come true.
The 24th May 2019 started out like any other day but by the end, my life would never be the same again.
On that fateful day I got off the bus on McIntyre Road and crossed the road as I had done for 30 years, except this time I did not see the car and the car didn’t see me until it was too late.
I spent 2 weeks in ICU at the Royal Melbourne Hospital before moving to a rehabilitation place for almost 10 months and was discharged in March 2020 just as Covid and lock downs hit Australia.
Rehabilitation continued at home by an amazing team however I became depressed and a bit angry at times as I faced the reality of my radically changed life. My beloved husband Steve was right by my side, as he has been for 40 years, supporting and loving me to push through.
My accident left me with an acquired brain injury, limited function in my left arm and reliance on a wheelchair while learning to walk unaided.
And then the unthinkable happened, Steve who is a diabetic got a skin infection in his leg, cellulitis and it became a life-threatening situation. With the infection spreading quickly the only option was amputation just below the knee to save his life.
I was stuck at home, Steve was in the hospital for a month, I could not see him because of the restrictions and I feared I would never see my darling husband again.
We both realized we were nearly lost to each other but have been given this second chance at life, albeit vastly different from our previous lives. We have been together for 44 years and next January 2025 we celebrate 40 years of marriage. We have had our ups and downs; we have raised 3 beautiful children and have 2 cherished grand-daughters and done the very best with what we had.
Steve is unable to work as a truck driver any longer due to the challenges of climbing in and out of a truck all day with his prosthetic leg and my ABI has left me unable to continue working in childcare, a career I absolutely loved.
I set myself a goal after my accident as I needed something to strive for and something to focus on during the really hard days. My goal was to walk unaided down the aisle on 26th January 2025 to renew my wedding vows, 40 years after the first time, to the man I love through good times and bad.
I have diligently been working towards this goal for over 4 years and I am so close to achieving it.
Steve and I are what you would call the good old Aussie battlers, so life has not been filled with riches of many kinds. Although we do realise how rich we are to still have each other.
We would so love to have a beautiful service, with some of the trimmings and to do this we are asking for your kind financial donation.
I am going to walk down the aisle unaided in a resplendent purple dress to the man I love knowing that dreams and goal do very much come true.
Thank you for any contribution you are able to make.
