Their story, as told by Olivia's parents:
On October 10th of last year, we found that our otherwise healthy 10-year-old daughter, Olivia, has brain cancer - known as a GioblastomaMultiforme
This is something no one could ever be prepared to hear. We will never forget being told this and then trying to explain this to everyone who cares about us in our lives.
Up until then, Olivia is what you would consider a normal and active fifth grade girl – she loved playing outside, playing sports, animals and just being a normal kid.
Olivia has undergone many surgeries, fought through 6 weeks of radiation on her brain every day during November – December and is now looking to begin her third round of chemotherapy.
Olivia is being treated at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She is our hero and all of our energies, thoughts and prayers are geared toward her care. We are doing everything we can for Olivia and are fighting with everything we have. It is the first thing we think about every day and the last thing we think about every evening, and probably a thousand times throughout every day.
Our family, friends and work colleagues have all been so wonderful to us – they all would do anything to heal Olivia – we truly believe this – and we can ALWAYS see it in their eyes!
We are also caring for our two boys and trying to help them understand what we are going through all at the same time of trying to keep their lives ‘normal.’ Our lives will never be ‘normal’ again. How we help our 14 year old and 9 year old boys are very different. Jack (14) is trying to understand the massiveness of what is facing our family while Sammy (9) is trying to understand what this means, and what cancer is doing to his best friend and sister.
