My flock needs a little help to get to Burning Man this year. I am fundraising to get my art piece, Duck, Duck, Gaggle to Black Rock City.
Duck, Duck, Gaggle is a circular bench with a gaggle of whimsically dressed geese sculptures that invites participants to rest, commune, preen, or play a game of duck, duck, goose. Geese are social creatures and this piece is meant to support connections. It is an invitation to turn inwards, or to play and run outwards. People can teach each other how to play duck duck goose or find other ways to engage.
The piece’s roots are in the Midwestern USA tradition of geese lawn ornaments that are dressed in outfits to align with holidays and seasons. It was a way for primarily women to express themselves, even if they didn’t consider themselves to be artists and share art in their own yard with anyone passing by. I have fond memories of my Grandma Connie’s goose and looking forward to what it was wearing whenever we visited. I am honored to be creating this art and sharing it.
The total budget for the project is $7983, We are hoping to raise $2,500 with this campaign. We are very excited to be receiving a Burning Man Honorarium Grant of $4,550 as well as an art grant from the FirePony Creative Society for $933. Any money we raise above the goal will go to enhancing the project with upgrades or better supporting the build crew (food!!!!). After Burning Man, the benches will be donated to local parks or nonprofits and the geese will continue to fly around to events.
You can see the budget below.
